Netanyahu Green-Lights Direct Elections between Himself and Gantz
By Staff, Agencies
Incumbent Zionist Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gave so-called Interior Minister Aryeh Deri the go-ahead on advancing a direct election between himself and designate Prime Minister Benny Gantz, head of the largest party in the Zionist parliament [Knesset].
According to ‘Israeli’ Channel 12, the move may have a majority in the Knesset as Yisrael Beiteinu's chairman Avigdor Lieberman has no principled objection to the idea.
The idea of a head-to-head battle between the occupation entity’s two main political figures was first brought up by Deri in the beginning of the week.
It later received a boost-in-confidence by the New Right's co-leader Ayelet Shaked, who stated that political sources had already begun advancing the proposal, Channel 12 reported.
