Lebanon’s Interior Minister Raya Haffar El Hassan spoke of the current situation in Lebanon, shedding light on Hezbollah’s importance in the country.

El Hassan said that Hezbollah, the Resistance group, is part of Lebanon’s social fabric.

“On the political side, Hezbollah has been elected. They are part of Parliament. They have their constituency. They have the people. They are part of the social fabric,” El Hassan said.

“So they [Hezbollah] are here to stay” Lebanon’s Interior Minister said.

Elsewhere in the interview, El Hassan pointed to the importance of forming a “clean government” – a government that “does not have the stain of corruption”.

“Obviously we heard the protesters accuse the political elite of corruption, of sectarianism, of ineffective and inefficient government,” El Hassan said.

However, she said that not all politicians should be treated similarly, saying: “lumping all the politicians in one boat is also a bit unfair”.
