The likelihood of a third “Israeli” election is high as of Wednesday night, with both Likud and Blue & White saying negotiations were unsuccessful and they see no chance of a breakthrough.

The parties' negotiating teams are nevertheless scheduled to meet again on Thursday.

21 days are left for Blue & White leader Benny Gantz to form a government before the mandate returns to the Knesset [the “Israeli” entity’s so-called parliament], which will then have 21 days to select a subsequent candidate for prime minister or else go ahead with an unprecedented third consecutive election.

An unnamed senior Blue & White source has said that meetings with Likud have been unsubstantial thus far, but had higher hopes for progress in Thursday's scheduled talks.

He explained that talks were stalled due to Likud's insistence on Netanyahu's assuming the helm first in a rotational arrangement – a nonstarter for Blue & White, given that Gantz holds the mandate to form a government.
