US President Donald Trump authorized $4.5 million in aid to the suspicious Western-backed White Helmets group operating in Syria.

The organization is notorious for staging false-flag chemical attacks in the war-torn country.

Trump ordered the funds "to continue United States support for the organization's important and highly valued work in the country," White House spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham claimed in a statement on Tuesday.

The Trump administration also provided $6.8 million in funding to the White Helmets earlier in June.

The suspicious group has operated solely in areas controlled by anti-government militias in Syria.

Russia and Syria stress that the group is linked to Nusra Front terrorists. They say the White Helmets have contributed to false flag chemical attacks aimed at accusing the Syrian government of targeting its own people.
