Leader of the Islamic Revolution His Eminence Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei said Iran should no longer put its trust in the Europeans as they fulfilled none of their 11 commitments under a 2015 nuclear deal with Iran following Washington's withdrawal.

Imam Khamenei made the remarks in a meeting with members of the Assembly of Experts in Tehran on Thursday.

His Eminence said the Iranian officials who were engaged in negotiations say the Europeans have fulfilled none of their commitments, adding, “This is the strongest reason why we should not trust them in any field.”

“Contrary to their promises, the Europeans remained committed to the American sanctions [against Iran] in practice and took no action” to honor their obligations under the deal, officially named the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action [JCPOA], Imam Khamenei added.

They also seem to be “unlikely to do anything for the Islamic Republic” in the future, and this is why Iran should pin no hope on the Europeans, His Eminence noted.

Imam Khamenei also noted that except for the United States and the Zionist regime, the way is paved for interaction and negotiation with all other countries, adding, “However, those countries that have hoisted the flag of animosity towards the Islamic establishment and are topped by American and these few European countries, should not be trusted in any way, because they are explicitly showing hostility toward the Iranian nation.”

Imam Khamenei emphasized that the motivations behind Europeans’ hostility toward the Islamic Republic are not different from those of the United States, saying, “Europeans appear as mediators and engage in long negotiations,” but all they say is empty words.

His Eminence then noted that despite all hostilities, what has happened during the past 40 years has ended up in favor of the Islamic Republic.

“Today, the Islamic establishment is not only stronger than 40 years ago, but is even stronger than ten years ago and its revolutionary and political might has spread through the region and the roots of the [Islamic] Revolution have run deep.”

Elsewhere in his remarks, Imam Khamenei pointed to social, political, and economic conditions in the United States and Europe, saying, “America, which is our archenemy, is currently the most hated government in the world and Europeans have themselves admitted to their weaknesses and decline of their power.”
