British Prime Minister Boris Johnson goaded the opposition Labor Party Wednesday, telling its leader to either try to topple him or, if not, to stand aside and allow his government to deliver Brexit.

"This parliament must either stand aside and let this government get Brexit done, or bring a vote of no confidence and finally face the day of reckoning with the voters," Johnson said in a speech that at times was all but drowned out by shouts from other lawmakers.

Earlier in the day, Johnson said in a televised interview with ITV that the British government would both respect the law and leave the European Union as scheduled October 31.

Meanwhile, the UK Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that Johnson’s decision to shut down Parliament in the run-up to Brexit was unlawful, but the defiant prime minister said he disagreed and vowed that Britain would leave the EU by October 31, come what may – even without a deal.
