Iraqi Popular Mobilization Units [PMU], also known in Arabic as Hashd al-Shaabi announced that the ‘Israeli’ occupation carried out a deadly drone attack on Sunday close to the border with Syria in the town of al-Qaim.

“As part of the string of Zionist attacks on Iraq, the evil ‘Israeli’ crows have returned to target the Hashd al-Shaabi, this time with two drones inside Iraqi territory,” the PMU said in a statement.

It said one fighter was martyred and another critically wounded in the attack, revising an earlier toll of two dead.

“This blatant attack came with air cover over the area from American planes, in addition to a large balloon to monitor the area near the site of the incident,” the statement added.

Earlier last week, second-in-command of the PMU Abu Mahdi al-Muhandiss blamed the US and the Zionist entity for recent explosions at the group’s bases in the Arab country.

“We have evidence that shows the US has brought four ‘Israeli’ drones into Iraq,” he said, adding, the Americans “are using the drones to target the PMU and Iraqi bases, rather than targeting the Daesh” terrorist group.

Al-Muhandiss also vowed that “from now on we will target any drone flying over our bases.”

Later on Thursday, the group announced it had downed a hostile drone over the capital, Baghdad.
