Leader of the Islamic Revolution His Eminence Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei expressed concern about tensions in Kashmir, urging India to follow a fair policy with respect to people of the Muslim-majority region.

“We’re concerned about Muslims’ situation in Kashmir. We have good relations with India, but we expect the Indian government to adopt a just policy towards the noble people of Kashmir and prevent the oppression & bullying of Muslims in this region,” His Eminence said as cited by his official Twitter account.

“The current situation in Kashmir &the disputes between India &Pakistan regarding it are a result of the vicious British government’s measures while leaving the Indian subcontinent. The British intentionally left this wound in that region in order to sustain conflicts in Kashmir.”

Imam Khamenei made his remarks on Wednesday during a meeting with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and his cabinet members.

The meeting was held in Tehran on the occasion of National Government Week which will start as of August 24 in Iran.

Government Week is observed in memory of former president Mohammad Ali Rajaei and his Prime Minister Mohammad Javad Bahonar.

On August 30, 1981, a bomb explosion claimed the lives of top officials including the then President Rajaei and Prime Minister Bahonar.

Rajaei's government was in office for less than a month.

The terrorist group of Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization [MKO] was responsible for the 1981 attack.
