The US Navy came under fire as the crew of the deployed USS FORT McHENRY LSD43 did not make their ship appear more presentable.

Photos of the ship revealed how terrible its appearance looked as it was leaving Kiel, Germany back in June.

Relatively, former naval warfare correspondent at Defense News and former television director Chris Cavas criticized the situation the ongoing situation of the ship in tweets of his own.

He tweeted:
Deployed US #amphibious ship USS FORT #McHENRY LSD43 leaving Kiel, Germany 9 June after a 3-day port call, during which the crew did not make their ship appear more presentable. Note to USN leaders: everyone notices this. #paint #whypaint #rustneversleeps

Another tweet by Enrico Ivanov included:
#US amphibious ship USS Fort McHenry LSD43 leaving #Germany in June. Looks like the monstrous 700+ billion $ defense budget of the last few years is not well spent if active warships can't even be restored.

The US Navy is known for ill priorities and investment strategy, that’s why it was repeatedly urged to build fewer ships instead of the many ones it has, and put the money into better crews.

According to a new GAO audit, another big problem facing the US Navy is maintenance backlogs. It was between 2012 and 2018, only 30 percent of maintenance was completed on schedule. In particular, most Navy attack submarines have suffered maintenance delays. The backlog is caused by insufficient capacity in public shipyards as well as shortages of shipyard workers.

The ship carries Marines to perform amphibious warfare duties.

Earlier last year, a new case of a viral infection aboard a US navy warship was reported Tuesday, which means the USS Fort McHenry will continued to be quarantined at sea in the Middle East, according to the US Navy Fifth Fleet, according to the CNN Pentagon Correspondent Barbara Star.

The ship was at the time operating in the Gulf region and military medical officials are assessing when it may be deemed medically safe to make a port call.

The case meant that 26 sailors and Marines have fallen ill on board since December. The Navy said it is awaiting findings from a medical team before deciding when the ship can be deemed safe to pull into a port.

Then in March of 2019, CNN reported that the Fort McHenry had essentially been quarantined at sea for over two months and has been unable to make a port call due the outbreak of the mumps-like virus.

The 26 sailors and Marines aboard the amphibious warship have been diagnosed with parotitis, which causes symptoms similar to mumps, according to US military officials.
