40 Palestinian Prisoners Start Hunger Strike as «Israeli» Jail Forces Storm Ofer Sections

Dozens of Palestinian “administrative detainees” in the “Israeli” entity’s jails decided to start an open-ended hunger strike on Monday.

About 40 prisoners affiliated with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine will join the ongoing hunger strike in “Israeli” jails on Monday in protest at of the so-called “administrative detention” and in solidarity with the hunger-striking detainees.

The detainees have been calling for over a month on the “Israel” Prison Service [IPS] to stop extending their “administrative detention” orders but in vain.

29 Palestinian prisoners have been on hunger strike for different periods in “Israeli” prisons in protest at their detention administratively without charge or trial.

In a separate notion, the Palestinian Prisoner Society [PPS] said that “Israeli” forces on Monday morning violently stormed sections 19 and 20 of the Ofer jail and wreaked widespread havoc inside prisoners’ rooms. Memebers of the “Metzada” repression unit assaulted prisoners after breaking into their cells.

According to PPS, the forces raided a section where children under age 18 are held, subdued and handcuffed some of them and transferred them to cells for a while before taking them back to their section.

The Club said that the IPS informed the prisoners that the transfer is due to a Shabak order and that it would be executed, without providing any further details.

The forces also transferred about 20 prisoners from section 20 to small cells in the same jail and many others to different jails, including Gilboa prison and jails in the south.

Consequently, the other Ofer prisoners decided to go on hunger strike and close all sections until the jail administration and the “Israeli” prison service end their repressive measures and respond to their demands.

Ofer prison witnessed one of the toughest confrontations with IPS last month, when “Israeli” forces repressed prisoners causing several injuries, after a mass hunger strike.
