Lapid: We Expect the US Administration to Stay out of “Israeli” Politics
By Staff, Agencies
The co-leader of “Israel’s” Blue and White stated that while he believes whoever wins the September elections will have a positive relationship with the White House, they expect the US to “stay out of our election.”
Discussing the upcoming “Israeli” elections and US President Donald Trump's vocal support for Benjamin Netanyahu, Yair Lapid says he is not too concerned by the two's ever-warming ties.
Netanyahu's relationship with the US president has long been a central feature of the “Israeli” campaigning.
In the last round of elections, Trump appeared on giant campaign billboards shaking hands and smiling with Netanyahu, and the premier has shared video of the US leader calling him "strong" and a "winner."
But for Lapid, a good relationship between the US and “Israel” is simply par for the course.
“I think whoever wins the election is going to be on great terms with the American president.”
Lapid further suggested that the Trump-Netanyahu dynamic will not play a big role in the elections as long as the US does not get involved in the elections, as that is the expectation of "civil" politics.
“Of course we expect the American administration to stay out of our election the same way the Americans expect us to stay away from their election. It's just the civil way of treating politics.”
