Former London Mayor Boris Johnson beat Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt on 23 July in a ballot of Conservative Party members, winning with 92,153 votes to Hunt's 46,656.

As the newly elected leader of the governing party, Johnson succeeds Theresa May as British prime minister.

Johnson took office on 24 July after winning the Conservative leadership contest.

According to Johnson, his main goals at the post will be to deliver Brexit by 31 October, unite the Tories, defeat the Labor Party opposition, and "energize our country".

He is scheduled to attend an audience with the Queen at Buckingham Palace, where he will be asked to form a government.
