Lebanese President Michel Aoun slammed Wednesday the new wave of US sanctions on Hezbollah MPs and officials, declaring that Lebanon would follow up on the action with US authorities.

"Lebanon regrets that the United States has resorted to these measures, especially in targeting two elected MPs," Aoun said, according to a statement from his office.

The United States Treasury Tuesday named Head of Loyalty to Resistance group Mohammad Raad and MP Amin Sharri and Head of Liaison and Coordination Unit security chief Wafiq Safa as “specially designated global terrorists,” effectively cutting them off from the international financial system.

Aoun slammed Tuesday's decision, saying that it "contradicted previous US positions that confirm Lebanon and the banking sector's commitment to international treaties related to anti-money laundering and preventing [financing] terror groups."

Aoun's comments follow reactions from both Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and Prime Minister Saad Hariri.

Earlier Wednesday, Berri described the sanctions as "attack on Parliament and on Lebanon.”
