Paper: Guaido Would Probably Accept US Military Intervention in Venezuela

Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido said on Friday he was open to accept a US military intervention amid the ongoing political emergency in his country.

“If the Americans were to propose a military intervention I would probably accept it,” he said in an interview with Italian daily newspaper La Stampa.

Two Venezuelan lawmakers sought refuge at foreign embassies in Caracas on Thursday, as the Venezuelan government cracked down on Guaido’s allies who supported his attempted uprising last week.

In the meantime, the Guaido called for a nationwide protest on Saturday over the arrest of his deputy opposition figure.

With the order of The Supreme Court of Justice [TSJ], Edgar Zambrano, vice president of the opposition-controlled National Assembly, was arrested Wednesday by Venezuela’s Bolivarian National Intelligence Service [SEBIN] for supporting last week’s failed coup attempt against President Nicolas Maduro.

Venezuela has been rocked by protests since Jan. 10 when Maduro was sworn in for a second term.
