TEHRAN--Iran will pursue its nuclear path, the country's highest authority, Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Wednesday, speaking at a ceremony celebrating Eid Al-Mabath, one of the greatest Islamic holidays.
"They (the West) know that the Iranian nation is after using nuclear energy to provide electricity but they say because this work gives you capability, we will not allow it," Ayatollah Khamenei said.
"Iranian nation will of course continue their path, relying on their helpful experience and on the reliable benefits of its 30-year resistance."
Ayatollah Khamenei said having a right stance is the key but not sufficient condition for progress.
"Based on a divine tradition, right will be victorious when its followers keep resistance under all conditions," he said.
Iranian leader called those building and holding nuclear weapons as "world's ignorant bullies" who are threatening peace in all countries.
"Backing down one step in the face of the arrogance will encourage it to come one step forward. The idea, that retreatment from right stances will make the arrogance change its policy, is totally wrong and baseless."
"Iranian nation is awake and fully understands the facts," announced the Iranian Supreme Leader.
The world powers have given Iran two weeks from July 19 to respond to an offer in return for freezing expansion of its nuclear work.
That would suggest a deadline of Saturday, although Russia, one of the six powers, has opposed a deadline which many say would undermine the process of nuclear negotiations.
Iran, suffering daily power cuts countrywide, says needs the nuclear work for generating electricity as the country faces problems for water supply as well.
Iran, a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty, has rejected suspension of uranium enrichment insisting that developing civilian nuclear industry is its legitimate right.
