On Wednesday afternoon, Hamas’ chief Ismail Haniyeh made his first comments since the escalation on the Gaza border saw his offices pummeled in Israeli airstrikes.

While remaining defiant in the wake of the latest flare-up, he spoke briefly, claiming that “Israel got the message.”

“The resistance has had the last word, and ‘Israel’ got the message,” Haniyeh said. “I am grateful to all parties who helped stop the Zionist arrogance in the Gaza Strip.” he said referring to the recent damage done in central “Israel” by rocket fire.

Early Monday morning, a rocket fired from the Gaza Strip struck a house in the village of Mishmeret in the heavily populated suburban area north of the metropolis of Tel Aviv, injuring seven people and damaging a total of 30 houses in the area.

In response, “Israeli” fighter jets fired several warning short before pounding targets throughout the Strip, including Hamas security and intelligence headquarters and Haniyeh’s offices.

The “Israeli” Occupation Forces [IOF] said it held Hamas responsible for the rocket attack, while the group reportedly told Egyptian interlocutors that the launch was an “accident” caused by inclement weather and promised to investigate.

Members of the political military echelon warned that the “Israeli” entity would not hesitate to order a full-scale operation in Gaza ahead of elections, while Netanyahu's political opponents took aim at “Israel's” declining deterrence under his leadership.

Hamas said Tuesday morning that they would adhere to a commitment not to escalate tensions with the “Israeli” entity, so long as the “Israeli” army halted airstrikes in the Palestinian enclave which came in retaliation to a rocket attack early Monday morning that scored a direct hit on a residence in central “Israel”.

But Haniyeh pledged to rebuild the facilities promptly as a show of resilience in the face of the ongoing conflict.

"We will restore the leadership's headquarters, which is a symbol of steadfastness and heroism,” he said, while also calling on Palestinians to join this Friday’s Great March of Return protests that will mark the one-year anniversary since they began.

“I call on all the Palestinian people... to go out on Land Day and participate in the marches."

At least 251 Palestinians have been martyred by “Israeli” fire since March 2018, the majority shot during the weekly border protests and others hit by tank fire or air strikes.

Two Israeli soldiers have been killed over the same period.
