Human Rights Watch slammed US President Donald Trump for violating international laws on the occupied Golan Heights in Syria.

“President Trump appears poised to drive a wrecking ball through the international law that protects the population of the occupied Golan Heights,” said Eric Goldstein, deputy Middle East and North Africa director at Human Rights Watch, in a reference to Trump’s tweet on an imminent decision to recognize the Golan Heights as a part of the ‘Israeli’ occupation entity.

The area was occupied by the Zionist entity in 1967 war, and annexed it to other occupied territories in 1981. The United Nations was renounced as 'null and void and without international legal effect'.

In the statement issued Monday, HRW emphasized that no state can change the status of the Golan Heights and the Syrian people residing there.

The ‘Israeli’ regime established a number of settlements in the Golan Heights and has settled thousands of ‘Israelis.’ The moves have been condemned by UN and other human rights groups across the world.
