Yemen’s Popular Committees Shoot Down US Drone
By Staff, Agencies
Yemen’s popular committees backed by the Ansarullah revolutionaries announced late on Friday that they had shot down a US drone north of the capital Sanaa.
"Our air defenses shot down MQ-1 Predator Drone in Hamdan district north of the capital Sana’a," read a brief statement on the official SABA news agency.
According to a military source, the drone is run by the Saudi-led coalition forces. There were no comments by the coalition over the committees’ claim.
Saudi Arabia launched a military coalition against Yemen in March 2015 to forcefully restore former Yemeni President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi back to power.
The Yemeni Ansarullah movement has threatened to strike Riyadh and Abu Dhabi if the coalition forces pushed into Hudaydah, a key sea port for the entry of most food imports and humanitarian aid.
