Germany Extends Arms Sales Ban on Saudi Arabia for additional Month

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said his country decided to extend the arms embargo against Saudi Arabia until the end of March.

Maas’ remarks came during an interview with local Tagesspiegel newspaper, in which he explained that Germany not only had decided to stop exporting arms to Saudi Arabia but had also banned the sale of weapons to Riyadh that Berlin had previously approved.

“We did not do so only because of the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, but to make clear to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates that we are waiting for them to contribute to the Yemeni peace process,” he stressed.
