The bodies and remains of some 200 Arab freed fighters handed over by "Israel" to Hizbullah in Operation al-Redwan were assembled at Shahed School at the airport road in south Beirut Thursday pending final identification measures prior to handing them over to their families.
The cortege started its procession from Naqoura, southern Lebanon, at which a symbolic ceremony was held to honor the fighters followed by similar stops throughout the coastal road. It was greeted with honorary rallies in the various towns and villages. A platform was held at Al-Naqoura port to greet the martyrs.
Residents threw rose petals and rice and some cheered as the makeshift hearses carrying the bodies of the Lebanese, Palestinian and Arab fighters passed on its journey to Beirut chanting "death to America, death to "Israel"".
Hizbullah had earlier received the bodies of twelve martyrs including 8 Islamic Resistance martyrs who fell during confrontations with "Israeli" occupation soldiers in Lebanon in 2006. The other four bodies are for martyr Dalal Moghrabi and three of her comrades who carried out a heroic operation in the late 70's inside occupied territories.
Palestine Liberation Organization official Sultan Abul Ainein told reporters "most of the martyrs are Palestinians." However, a detailed count of the remains is yet to be released pending final DNA tests.
