A number of the notorious Bahraini Jaw Prison inmates were poisoned on Monday, human rights activist Ibtisam Al-Saegh reported.

Al-Saegh announced via her Instagram account that she "received news from building No. 13 that on Monday 28/1/2019, a large number of convicts held in Jaw Central Prison were poisoned after their lunch meal, and there was a confusion due to the number of infected prisoners.”

The inmates were not hospitalized and the severe cases were referred to the prison nurse. However, the usual dinner meal was cancelled, she added.

Al-Saegh further explained that "despite the fact that two days have passed, some are still suffering from symptoms and pains," adding that "the convicts demanded to hold accountable the lunch supervisor and the one responsible for food quality and hygiene."

She also urged the prison to commit to the right to an adequate standard of living, including accommodation, food and water.
