"Some US leaders pretend to be insane, but I don't believe it. They are, however, first class idiots," Leader of the Islamic Revolution His Eminence Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei said during a meeting with people from Qom province Wednesday morning in Tehran.

Describing Qom as the starting point of the 1979 Islamic Revolution, the Leader urged the need to be alert against the malignant conspiracies of the enemies against the Islamic Republic, especially its younger generation.

“There are some moves to marginalize Qom’s revolutionary role and spirit [in the society], so it is necessary to be aware of the enemies' wicked plots," he added.

The Leader further said, “A while ago, a US politician had said, among a gathering of terrorists and thugs, that he hopes to celebrate this Christmas in Tehran. Christmas was a few days ago. This is how US calculations work; and they're proud of their calculations and foreseeing!”

His Eminence further added, “Sometimes the enemy talks like a clown. A US official recently said Iran should learn human rights observation from Saudi Arabia! What can we call him but a clown? Neither their threats, nor their promises, nor their signatures are reliable and they should be distrusted”.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Imam Khamenei explained that Iran will overcome hardship, saying, “As sanctions during Saddam's war on us made our domestic potentials flourish and we’re now ahead of others in the region in terms of defensive capabilities, by God's Grace, we will come out of this phase, too. As Saddam was sent to hell, our enemies will also be sent to hell”.

Thousands of people from Qom came to Tehran to meet the Leader on Wednesday. The meeting comes on the occasion of the uprising of the people of Qom against the Pahlavi regime on January 9, 1978; a landmark protest which was in response to an article published in Ettela'at newspaper, insulting the founder of Islamic Revolution His Eminence Imam Khomeini. Many believe that this demonstration was the start of a wave which ended the Pahlavi regime one year later.
