The resignation of War Minister Avigdor Lieberman and the withdrawal of his party from the governing coalition in mid-November has left Netanyahu with a one-seat Knesset majority.

A spokesman for the “Israeli” entity’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Monday that the entity will hold a general election in April 2019. The announcement came after a meeting of members of the country's ruling coalition.

"The leaders of the coalition decided unanimously to dissolve parliament and go to a new election in early April," Reuters cited the spokesman as saying.

The “Israeli” entity’s War Minister Lieberman stepped down from his post on 14 November over Netanyahu's push for a ceasefire with Hamas.

Lieberman, who accused the Netanyahu of "surrendering to Hamas", also said that his Yisrael Beitenu (“Israel” Our Home) party, which at the time held five seats in the 120-seat Knesset, would leave the coalition.

The resignation of Lieberman has not deprived Netanyahu of the parliamentary majority's support, but reduced the ruling coalition to 61 seats — the narrowest margin possible. Netanyahu's coalition now comprises such parties as “United Torah Judaism”, “Kulanu”, “Shas”, and his own “Likud”.
