Iranian President Hassan Rouhani hit out at US “economic terrorism” against Iran as an international conference opens in Tehran with the participation of China, Russia, Turkey, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

He further added that Saturday US economic terrorism is specifically evident after its withdrawal from a multilateral nuclear deal with Iran and its decision to re-impose sanctions on the country.

Rouhani’s remarks came at the opening of the second conference of parliament speakers from Afghanistan, China, Iran, Pakistan, Russia and Turkey on challenges of terrorism and inter-regional connectivity in Tehran.

The fight against terrorism and enhanced cooperation in the region are among the topics being covered in the conference.

"The oppressive and illegal US sanctions against the honored Iranian nation is a clear form of terrorism that has targeted our nation," he said.

"Economic terrorism means creating fear about the economy of a country and terrifying other countries in order to prevent trade and investments in that country."

Referring to the Washington's withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, Rouhani said, "The US exit from the JCPOA, the re-imposition of sanctions and the government's measures against the Islamic Republic of Iran and its business partners is a blatant example of economic terrorism."

Rouhani also noted that the Islamic Republic has been the biggest victim of terrorism and suffered heavy human and financial damage.

Terrorist attacks in Iran, such as the Thursday incident in Chabahar, would not hamper the Iranian nation's resolve to fight all forms of terrorism, Rouhani added.
