Turkey has accused Donald Trump of turning a “blind eye” to the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi in Saudi Arabia’s consulate in Istanbul.

Mevlut Cavusoglu, the Turkish foreign minister, called for an international investigation into the Saudi writer’s killing last month.

United States President Donald Trump has shown that he will turn a "blind eye" to the killing of Saudi “journalist Jamal Khashoggi no matter what details come out to implicate the Saudi Crown,” Cavusoglu said Friday.

Trump on Tuesday vowed the US would remain a “steadfast partner” of Saudi Arabia despite acknowledging that MBS may have been involved in the plan to murder Khashoggi last month.

Cavusoglu told CNN Turk that the US has not shared any recordings related to Khashoggi’s murder the day after Turkish Hurriyet daily reported the CIA has a recording of ordering, “Silence Jamal Khashoggi as soon as possible.” This claim has yet to be verified.

Abdulkadir Selvi, the Turkish journalist who first published reports of a recording of Khashoggi’s death, says the CIA was wiretapping a phone call between MBS and his brother, Khaled bin Salman, the Kingdom’s ambassador to the US.

After lengthy denials, Saudi authorities admitted responsibility and said 21 people had been taken into custody.

Khashoggi, 59, was a veteran Saudi journalist who wrote for the Washington Post and other international media.

His remains have not been found.
