Lebanese Army Commander Gen. Joseph Aoun Wednesday called on soldiers along the southern border with the “Israeli”-occupied territories to be alert to the security situation there, and soldiers across the country to be vigilant about the country’s broader condition.

Aoun’s address to the soldiers came on Order of the Day, ahead of Lebanon’s 75th Independence Day, which will be marked Thursday.

“In times of massive international changes and conflicts, you persist in your readiness on the southern border to thwart the schemes of the “Israeli” enemy and its threats and its attempts to control part of our territories and oil resources,” Aoun said.

Aoun further stressed that the Lebanese Army soldiers have a “sacred right” to defend their people and land.

“The other side of your sacrifice is combating terrorism, which you have kicked out of our land,” Aoun said, noting that the Army is now also deployed along the northeastern border with Syria in order to secure it from terror groups and control smuggling operations.

“Know that the ... stability that we are enjoying domestically is the result of your hard and continued work in persecuting terror cells, dismantling them and carrying out preemptive measures against them,” Aoun said.

“There is no room for those violating the security [of Lebanon], and there is no safe haven for them. The Army is determined to pursue them,” Aoun concluded.
