Sources close to Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi’s family said that his eldest son, Salah, was unable to travel outside Saudi Arabia for several months.

“There was a travel ban on his son,” CNN’s Global Affairs analyst Aaron David Miller said.

He pointed out, “Every effort should be made out of respect for his missing father to allow him to leave, perhaps go to Istanbul or come to the United States,” saying that the behavior of Saudi Arabia towards the case of Khashoggi were “highly controlling, highly centralized and, frankly, highly repressive”

“It is important to understand that what happened to Jamal [Khashoggi] is not the first indication of the extent of Mohammed bin Salman’s repressiveness. It follows a long patter and arch of arrests in scores of Saudi activists, journalists, clerics and even women who were instrumental in the crown princess’s own reform,” Miller explained.

“This is a tail end of some highly repressive policies,” Miller concluded.

Khashoggi, a Saudi journalist and Washington post columnist, disappeared on the afternoon of October 2 after entering the Saudi consulate building in Istanbul.

Salah Khashoggi, who writes an economic column in al-Eqtisadiah newspaper, currently lives in Jeddah, while other members of the family, including Jamal Khashoggi's divorcee and his daughter, live in Dubai.

Meanwhile, Saudi propagandists are working tirelessly to spread misinformation. Al-Arabiya, a Saudi-owned channel, aired an interview with Khashoggi’s son, Salah, in which he suggested that his father was not even engaged.
