Bahrainis Urge Boycott of Upcoming Elections
Local Editor
Hundreds poured onto the streets across Bahrain on Friday evening in protest over next month’s parliamentary and municipal elections.
Protesters called for a boycott of the polls that critics describe as being neither free nor fair.
The elections are slated for November 24 and come at a time when all of the country’s opposition movements are banned and its members prohibited from holding seats in parliament.
Friday’s protests saw a number of arrests as Manama’s security forces reportedly attacked one of the peaceful marches in the village of Karana.
Demonstrations were also reported in numerous other towns and villages including Shakhura and Abu Saiba.
