Natalie Portman Rejects ’Israeli’ Genesis Prize Award Ceremony
Local Editor
Oscar-winning actress Natalie Portman announced that she is not attending a ceremony in the "Israeli"-occupied Palestinian territories to accept a million-dollar prize because she doesn't support Zionist Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who was scheduled to speak at the event.
Relatively, Portman's decision caused a minor backlash in the Zionist entity after organizers of the Genesis Prize award ceremony said they canceled the prize-giving.
The group had quoted a representative of Portman who said recent "distressing" events in the Zionist entity caused the actress to back out.
This led many to interpret her decision as connected to the international criticism of the "Israeli" apartheid regime for its military response to Palestinian protests on the Gaza border during the last few weeks, in which 35 Palestinians were martyred.
