Tehran - Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei said on Monday that Islamic Ummah is in dire need of unity.

The Supreme Leader made the remark after receiving Comoros President Abdullah Sambi in Tehran on Monday.

"Unity and cooperation among world Muslims will bring them more strength," underlined Ayatollah Khamenei.

Referring to ample facilities and high capabilities of Islamic countries, the Supreme Leader said the Muslim world which enjoys rich natural resources, strategic geographical locations, wide lands, large population, active work force and experts can easily turn into a unified power but big powers are apposed to such a phenomenon.

Referring to latest achievements of Islamic countries in terms of scientific and technological know-how such as Iran's success in mastering peaceful nuclear technology, the Supreme Leader said the enemies of Islam are well aware that Iran's nuclear program is of peaceful nature but oppose it because they consider it a move towards progress.

It is necessary for the United Nations Security Council to allocate one permanent seat to Islamic countries, said Ayatollah Khamenei, adding that world Muslims who enjoy ample facilities are deprived of enough power to defend their rights and such a move would help them take a practical step towards overcoming obstacles and getting rid of geographical, racial and religious disputes.

The enemies have employed all means to divide Muslims mainly by creating disputes between Shiah Muslims and Sunni Muslims, said the Supreme Leader, adding "Unfortunately, in the Muslim world some politicians, intellectuals and Ulema have been caught in such a trap. However, all should know that the only way out of this trap is unity and convergence among Islamic countries."

The Comoros president, for his part, expressed satisfaction with his meeting with the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution and called for expansion of relations between the two countries.

Underlining the need for his country to benefit from the invaluable experiences of Iranian experts for its development, he said Comoros needs the planning and views of Iranian experts to implement development projects.
