TEHRAN-The Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei says the Islamic countries are required to secure a permanent seat at the UN Security Council.
The Leader made the remarks on Monday in a meeting with the Comorian President Abdullah Sambi in Tehran.
Ayatollah Khamenei said Muslim nations are deprived of necessary might to defend their rights at the United Nations despite having multiple facilities.
The Leader said Muslims should take practical measures to secure a permanent seat at the council and put aside their geographical, racial and religious differences.
Ayatollah Khamenei also called on the Islamic countries to forge unity against the "enemies" and take "practical" steps for realizing their wishes.
"Islamic Ummah is in dire need of unity; unity and cooperation among world Muslims will bring them more strength," the Leader said.
Referring to the Islamic countries' capabilities, the Leader said: "Muslim world, enjoying rich natural resources, strategic geographical locations, abundant lands, great population, active work force and experts, can easily turn into a unified power. However, imperial powers are apposed to such an achievement in the world of Islam."
He also referred to the latest scientific and technological achievements of the Islamic countries, notably the Islamic Republic of Iran's nuclear achievements.
Ayatollah Khamenei said "the enemies of Islam are well aware that Iran's nuclear program is peaceful, however, they spare no efforts to halt the program, for, and they consider the Iranian nations' move an upward step."
The Leader said: "The enemies have employed all means to sow the seed of discord among Muslims by creating disputes between Shias and Sunnis."
"Unfortunately, some of the politicians, intellectuals and Ulema in the Islamic countries have been caught in the trap. However, all should know that the only way to thwart the plots is unity among Islamic countries," he added.
The Comoros president, in turn, expressed satisfaction with the meeting and called for expansion of relations between the two countries.
Abdullah Sambi urged the need for his country to benefit from the invaluable experiences of Iranian experts for its development, saying, "Comoros needs the views of Iranian experts to implement developmental projects."
