Lebanese President General Michel Aoun on Thursday ruled out the possibility of a war with the ‘Israeli' entity, but said that if such a war were to occur, all of the Lebanese citizens are willing to battle ‘Israel.'

Speaking to the Kuwaiti-based Al-Rai newspaper, Aoun said, "I do not think there will be war with ‘Israel', because ‘Israel' would not win such a war."

He then added, "All Lebanese are ready to resist. All the Lebanese are prepared to fight against ‘Israel.' Yes, we are a small country, but we have reestablished our national unity, and part of that is a united opposition to anyone who attacks our country."

This is not the first time that the Lebanese president has threatened the Zionist entity. In February, Aoun warned that any ‘Israeli' attempt to violate the Lebanese sovereignty would be met with the "appropriate response".

Separately, Aoun called for Arab nations to "spare [the Lebanese state] a bit regarding Hezbollah's weapons," in a report published Friday by Lebanese Al-Itihad daily.

"[Lebanese political parties] are entrusted with security, stability - and Hezbollah has become a Middle Eastern issue now, in addition to the traditional problem with ‘Israel'."

"This issue can only be resolved [if one also] finds a solution for the Middle East crisis and the Arab-‘Israeli' conflict."

Stressing that any ‘Israeli' military action against Lebanon would not be successful, Aoun made clear that "no one can rely on anyone [else] to defend his country."

Elsewhere in his remarks, Aoun commented on the parliamentary elections scheduled for spring 2018, assuring doubters that voting would happen as planned.

"There is nothing to fear regarding the upcoming elections, and they will be held on time."
