Syria's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, Faisal Mekdad, highlighted the importance of the strategic achievements by the Syrian army and its allies in Deir Ezzor - a region that has endured immense suffering due to the presence of the Daesh terror organization. He pointed out that "this achievement was important in the elimination of terrorism and brings us closer to the moment of the final victory."

In an interview with the Al-Mayadeen Channel, Mekdad explained that "the attacks by the US coalition aircraft on one of the positions of the Syrian army in the Tharda Mountain in Deir Ezzor last year paved the way for a Daesh attack on the site and its eventual capture by the terrorists."

"The Deir Ezzor airport was a strategic target for the United States and the Daesh terror organization, which is a tool of "Israel" and the United States in the region," the Syrian official added.

Mekdad said that "the sacrifices made by the Syrian army to attain this great achievement in Deir Ezzor confirm that when this brave army wants to reach any location, nothing can stop it."

"Syria will remain united. All the schemes against it are being increasingly exposed," Mekdad told the pan-Arab network. "The great achievements of the army previously in Aleppo and now in Deir Ezzor are important on the long road to defeating terrorism and achieving what the Syrian people and friends of Syria in the region and around the world aspire for."

Mekdad expressed his gratitude to the allied forces and to all those who helped Syria in its fight against terrorism - spearheaded by Daesh, which stands as the symbol of international terrorism.

"The United States, which deals only with its interests, is ready to annihilate entire nations in order to preserve its interests and strategic influence in this area that connects Syria to Iraq," he warned. "Any foreign presence on Syrian soil is unacceptable in international law and the US presence on Syrian territory cannot be justified at all. The US forces destroyed the infrastructure in Syria and its action serves terrorism. Those who want to fight terrorism must coordinate with the Syrian army."

Mekdad also said that every achievement by the Syrian army is followed by "Western accusations and fabrications, and the Americans and others come back to raise the subject of chemical [weapons]."

"Our country has fulfilled all its obligations under the Chemical Weapons Convention. It has presented the commission of inquiry all of the information and documents it owns on the issue of chemical [weapons]. If the commissions of inquiry had moral grounds, they would've acquitted Syria and accused Daesh of committing such crimes because they are known to do so."

Regarding the latest "Israeli" attack on an army post in the area of Misyaf in the countryside of Hama, Mekdad warned that such operations are likely to continue saying that "this attack is designed to divert attention from the fight against terrorism. It is supported by "Israel" and the United States."
