Syrian Army units, in cooperation with the backup forces, established full control over al-Sukhneh city, 70 km northeast of Palmyra in the eastern countryside of Homs province after launching intensive operations against Daesh [ISIS/ISIL] terrorists.

A military source told SANA Saturday that large numbers of Daesh terrorists were killed and their weapons and equipment were destroyed in the army operations.

The source added that the army units, in cooperation with the backup forces, continued their operations to ensure safety of the surrounding area and hunted the terrorists who fled away.

Meanwhile, the engineering units dismantled the mines and explosive devices planted by the terrorists inside the residential buildings and streets, according to the source.

The government has also had its forces enter Deir Ez-Zor from the south.

Meanwhile, the northwestern city of Suwayda that the army had managed to reach the border with Jordan for the first time since 2011, when militancy began in Syria.

The successful operations liberated a 30-kilometer-long stretch of land along the frontier.

The Syrian government had now regained control over many border outposts and blocked militant infiltration points on the common border.

The Syrian army liberated the northwestern city of Aleppo late last year, delivering the heaviest blow to the militants since the onset of the crisis.
