TEHRAN-Millions of black-clad Muslims are commemorating the 19th demise anniversary of the founder of Iran's Islamic Revolution, the late Imam Khomeini, all across the world to renew their allegiance to his principles.
People were flocking to the capital Tehran on Tuesday from throughout the world to Imam Khomeini Mausoleum and millions more were expected to arrive later in the day.
On the eve of anniversary, Iranian President Mohammad Ahmadinejad addressed about 800 foreign guests from 50 countries, saying the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran, despite attempts to obstruct it, was a victory over injustice.
Ahmadinejad said the late Imam Khomeini was the contemporary standard-bearer of monotheism and made tremendous efforts to invite people to praising God and making the grounds ready for the righteous ruler.
After the victory of the Islamic Republic, "corrupted forces" tried to wipe off the principles set by Imama Khomeini, but his cause prevailed day by day.
The Iranian president said the late Imam Khomeini was a symbol of "unity and victory for Muslims", stressing through solidarity and vigilance of all Muslim nations, all Satanic forces will disappear soon.
Hojjatolislam Hassan Khomeini, the grandson of the late Imam, told the same gathering that the Islamic world today stands at a point from where it can take big strides.
Addressing the foreign guests, Hassan Khomeini said that the reason behind Imam Khomeini's huge appeal to this day is due to his emphasis on "unity, harmony and unity."
While paying tribute to the late leader, an Indian guest said, "Today Imam Khomeini is not with us but his soul would remain the beacon light for the generations to come."
Shoaib Iqbal, Deputy Speaker of Delhi Assembly said, "Imam Khomeini's thoughts have purified our hearts and made us fearless against satanic powers. He taught us the lesson of resistance and patience and to be afraid of only the Almighty."
He was a great world leader changing the course of the history by masterminding the Islamic Revolution of Iran and leading the same to its victorious conclusion on February 11, 1979, the Indian official said.
"Imam Khomeini by relying upon faith and without fearing any threats, in an era when religion had weak presence in the society and even was exposed to ignorance owing to prevalence of materialistic views, entered the scene and introduced religion as the basis for human lifestyle and founded a state on the foundation of religion", added Shoaib.
"He founded a sapling which has blossomed and grown up with deep roots. The big powers, in spite of a variety of conspiracies have been disappointed in confronting it," said Shoaib.
In short, Imam Khomeini was an ocean of new insights into Islam in its totality. Any attempt to limit him and his relevance to Iran or a particular school of thought would be a great injustice to him, to Islam and perhaps to Iran itself, Indian leader concluded.
Ayatollah Seyyed Ruhollah Khomeini was a politician, senior Muslim scholar, philosopher, writer, religious jurisprudence, and the political leader of the Iranian Revolution which saw the overthrow of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the last Shah of Iran.
Following the revolution, Ayatollah Khomeini took the leadership of the country as the paramount political figure of the new Islamic Republic until his demise in 1989.
Internationally he also made a great impact, and has been dubbed "the virtual face of Islam in Western popular culture" during his leadership.
