During an exclusive interview with the Al-Ahed news website, US-based Saudi journalist Hani Alabndi from al-Qatif described the harsh conditions the people of Awamiya have been experiencing since the Saudi security forces launched their aggression against the town about two weeks ago.

Hani Alabndi to Al-Ahed: We are Facing Sectarian Cleansing in Awamiya Driving Us Off our Lands

Alabndi explained that Awamiya residents have been trapped for two weeks by Saudi military forces that used new weapons in their aggression such as incendiary bombs and 50mm bullets. He also said that phosphorus bombs were likely to have been used.

According to Alabndi, the scenes and images circulating the social networking sites and modern application programs show the degree of the soldiers' madness. The sectarian dimension was present on an unprecedented scale. In addition, the forces were given the green light to document their movements inside the armored vehicles as they boasted with their weapons and indiscriminately shot at people and infrastructure.

Based on the daily barbaric aggression, Alabndi compares the behavior of the Saudi military both inside and outside the Kingdom to "neo-Nazis". He says, "I cannot differentiate very much between their behavior and their ideas. Racism, sectarianism and regionalism are ever-present during their war on Awamiyah."

Regarding the objective of the continuous aggression, Alabndi asserts that "what is happening is an attempt to displace the people of the town, in other words, to change the demography of the region dominated by the followers of the Shiite sect. This explains the sectarian rhetoric when the regime says ‘cleansing Qatif' or ‘cleansing Awwamiyya' and ‘send them back to Iran'". He adds that "this proposition exposes the regime and its security apparatuses .It proves its sectarian structure and political failure. It continues to practice the policy of deporting the problems and placing them in political conflicts, while it is better to address political problems rather than exacerbate them through the language of arms that it has been using for five years since the popular movement in the Eastern region sprung up."

Alabndi stressed that the language of arms that the Al-Saud insists on using in the town of Awamiyah and other areas of conflict in the Arab world has only produced more political opposition, thus widening the circle of their opponents both locally and regionally.

He pointed out that the Saudi authorities continue to arrest people just because they expressed their political opinion. Recently the authorities arrested an author from Qatif, Ali Shaaban. Through this it neglects that this exacerbates the situation and may generate counter-violence, as is the case with the groups that sprang from the Wahhabi ideology, such as ‘Al-Qaeda', ‘Daesh', ‘Boko Haram', and ‘Nusra Front [Jabhat Al Nusra]'. All of these would not have arisen if there had been no repressive, oppressive environment to feed them.

On the other hand, Alabndi points out that the signing of the arms deal between the United States and Saudi Arabia indicates the fear of the Al Saud regime from losing the protection of America. It is betting on the closure of the September 11 attacks dossier. Therefore, it confirms that there is a green light from the US administration to militarize Qatif and Awamiyah.

In conclusion, Alabndi warns that the region may enter a dangerous situation if the Saudi authorities continued the militarization of Awamiyah and other towns in Qatif.
