Tehran Mayor Quits Presidential Race, Backs Raeisi

Tehran mayor and a candidate in Iran's 12th presidential election, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, has issued a statement announcing his withdrawal from the presidential race while backing principlist candidate, Sayyed Ebrahim Raeisi.
"The day I decided to enter the election scene despite my personal interests, I was aware of the difficult and dangerous situation I would face," Qalibaf said in a statement on Monday.
He said it was clear that a fundamental change in the existing situation in the country required a fight against the "four-percent" minority, a term he has been using throughout his campaigning to refer to an unfair distribution of wealth and opportunities in Iran.
