Tunisia President: Iran Sole Hope for Struggle against «Israel»

Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi said Friday that Iran should play key role in the Middle East region despite all attempts to isolate it, adding that Tehran was the "sole hope for struggle against ‘Israel'."

According to IRNA news agency, the relevant remarks were made during Essebsi meeting with Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Reza Salehi Amiri in Carthage Palace, Tunis.

Amiri conveyed greetings of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani to his Tunisian counterpart and expressed hope for development of cultural exchanges between the two countries, as well as deepening cooperation in economy, trade and investment.

He said the situation in the region after events in Iraq and Syria has changed and if Iran had not acted in fight against terrorism, the terrorists would now be in Baghdad and Damascus and this virus could spread all over the region.

Salehi-Amiri proposed that a cultural front be formed to confront terrorism.

The Iranian minister also said that the two countries may cooperate in the field of media, art and cinema.

In his turn, Essebsi praised cultural heritage of Iran and emphasized Tehran's regional role.

He stressed that unfortunately the "Israeli" regime and its supporters are trying to isolate Iran, but thanks God Iran had returned successfully to the politics of the region.

The Tunisian leader expressed hope that other Arab states would support Iran in its confrontation with the "Israeli" entity.

He added that Syrian crisis has no military solution and Tunisia has been opposed to military approaches in Syria since the beginning and believed that Syrian problems should be solved through dialogue.

Essebsi called his meeting with the Iranian minister helpful and thanked Salehi Amiri for his visit and participation in the international book fair in Tunis.
