"When we demand the continuation of the resistance, we do not want its for a share in the cabinet or government or parliament," said Hizbullah deputy Secretary General Sheikh Naim Qassem.
"Even when we requested the obstructing third of votes, we were not looking for a certain number of ministers or privileges. We were looking for a political decision to protect this country," he added. In a talk with the An-Nour radio station, Qassem called for the active participation of all Lebanese parties in the national decision-making process, particularly with respect to the "'Israeli' project."
On the violence that gripped Lebanon for over a week in May, Qassem said, "It is true that some people tried to give it sectarian dimensions, and this is part of their attempts at incitement."
The Hizbullah leader denied the existence of Sunni-Shia discord in Lebanon. "In the confrontation, we (the resistance) joined all parties; on the other hand, there was a political movement and political leaders who were pushing in that direction."
Qassem described the Doha agreement as an "important achievement for all Lebanese... in this difficult and complex stage." He noted that the agreement had succeeded in converging Lebanese parties that could not find sufficient common denominators on their own.
Sheikh Qassem said the government formula was in need of the discussion on the distribution of tasks, adding that he expected to find a solution to the details.
"Even the premiership will have a solution. In the end, there are legal options that must be respected by all."
