Activists in New York City staged a protest against President-elect Donald Trump's recent call for a nuclear arms race with Russia and other countries.

NYC Protesters Chant: No Nukes, No Trump

Hitting the streets in Midtown Manhattan on Monday night, dozens of protesters marched to Trump Tower while chanting "No nukes, no Trump."

The demonstrators said they were enraged by the incoming president's recent remarks about the escalation of the nuclear arms race.

Moreover, about a dozen protesters staged a "die-in" in Union Square against the real estate magnet's nuclear tweets.

Trump said in a tweet last week that the US must "greatly strengthen and expand" its stock of atomic weapons until "the world comes to its senses regarding nukes."

Experts viewed the tweet as a response to comments by Russian President Vladimir Putin, who said hours earlier that his country needed to boost its nuclear deterrents.

Trump defended his remarks on Friday, saying, "We will outmatch them at every pass and outlast them all," without specifying which countries he was referring to.

"We are out here to reject the Trump agenda," said a 72-year-old demonstrator from Manhattan.

"A man like Trump does not appear to have the temperament that is suitable to be the president of the most powerful nation in the world," said another protester.

Trump's racist remarks as well as his treatment of women and use of obscene language to address them were also denounced in the rally.

"I come to America to learn about respecting each other and loving each other. What I see is something different from what I expect," said a 58-year-old Syrian refugee.

Police made no arrests during the rally, according to authorities.

The US currently has an arsenal of about 7,000 nuclear warheads, second only to Russia, which has a few hundred more.
