The Lebanese Army Wednesday arrested members of a Daesh [ISIS/ISIL] cell in north Lebanon, days after an attack on a military post in the area.

The National News Agency said that army's Intelligence Bureau raided several extremist hideouts in the Minyeh-Dinnieh town of Bqaa Sifrin, detaining a number of people suspected of being involved in the attack.

Lebanon's military had been on a manhunt for the gunmen that killed one soldier and wounded another during a Sunday attack on a military post in Bqaa Sifrin.

Local media reported that all five of the terrorist network's members were detained in Wednesday's operation, who they identified as A.W. - who confessed to opening fire at the military post - were A.N., Z.Sh., Y.Sh. and W.W.

Two Kalashnikov rifles - one of which was used in the attack - were found in their possession.
No casualties were reported during the raid.

Local media had earlier said that the attack could be in retaliation for the arrest of suspects linked to extremist groups in Syria.

Hundreds of suspects - Lebanese, Syrian, Palestinian and other nationalities - have been held in Lebanon over their alleged ties to extremist groups, as part of a crackdown across the country.

In addition to raids, the Lebanese Army and Hizbullah regularly targets areas on Lebanon's northeast border with artillery to repel Daesh and Jabhat Fatah al-Sham - previously known as the Nusra Front - which are embedded along the Syrian frontier.
