The Lebanese Army Friday arrested a senior Daesh [ISIS/ISIL] commander along with 10 other militants in a big military operation against the militant group on the outskirts of the restive northeastern town of Arsal.
The predawn lightning raid in Wadi al-Araneb conducted by the Lebanese Army Intelligence inflicted major losses in the ranks of Daesh, the National News Agency reported.
Senior Daesh commander Ahmad Ammoun was critically wounded in the operation, while his escort was killed.
Ammoun, who is also known as "Al-Sheikh", resides near a Syrian refugee encampment in Wadi al-Araneb, NNA said.
He was transferred to a nearby hospital aboard a military helicopter.
The military confiscated a large amount of arms and explosive belts after exchanging heavy fire with the militants.
The detained militants are reportedly involved in providing logistic cover for the eight suicide bombers that targeted the Christian border village of Al-Qaa in June.
The attacks killed five people and wounded about 30 others.
