Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs, Hossein Jaberi Ansari, stipulated that Lebanon's most recent political breakthrough would have a positive effect on the country and the entire region.

Jaberi Ansari: Lebanon’s Political Agreement Has Positive Effect on the Country, the Region

In an exclusive interview with the al-Ahed News Website, Jaberi Ansari explained that the Lebanon model could be adopted in other countries affected by the regional crisis, in that it can be used to facilitate dialogue between opposing political and social forces.

The Iranian official also reaffirmed Tehran's initial belief that the only solution to Lebanon's presidential crisis was dialogue and agreement among the country's political factions.

"There are some countries that wanted to resolve this crisis through exerting foreign pressure on the candidates and the Lebanese political parties. But the Islamic Republic of Iran has opposed such suggestions from the beginning and believed that the only solution is an internal consensus among the Lebanese," Jaberi Ansari said.

Addressing the latest visit by Iran's top diplomat to Beirut, Jaberi Ansari explains that Mohammad Javad Zarif was accompanied by the first high-level Iranian delegation to Lebanon since Michel Aoun was elected President.

The group, which consisted of high-level delegates in both the political and economic spheres, attended numerous meetings and discussions during the two-day visit. According to Jaberi Ansari, the delegation is a display of Iran's support for the agreement and the consensus among the Lebanese as well as a way of showing Tehran's readiness to develop relations with Lebanon's government, political factions and people.

Jaberi Ansari added that a speedy resolution to the region's crisis would avert reoccurring disasters in regional states and put the spotlight back on the leading cause of the Islamic nation - the Palestinian cause. He said that the only winner from the continuing crises in the region is the occupying Zionist entity.

"The crises in the region cannot be solved through military means, and some countries that use terrorism and wars to achieve their goals must know that it cannot change the regional realities. The developments in the region have proven that the deeply rooted political and social groups in the region are the owners of the land and cannot be eliminated by such measures," the senior Iranian diplomat opined.

Jaberi Ansari concludes by warning the states behind the terrorist scourge to revise their policies before they too are confronted by the dangers plaguing the region, which could ultimately result in serious regional and international instability.
