Koreas: S Military Expects N Nuclear, Missile Tests ahead of US Elections

The South Korean Yonhap news agency reported citing a military source that Pyongyang could use the moment ahead of the forthcoming elections for tests in order to send a message to the new US president.

The news outlet added that South Korean servicemen were on high alert and continued monitoring of the situation at North Korea's nuclear test site at Punggye-ri, as well as other sites, where ballistic missiles could be launched from.

Tensions on the Korean Peninsula intensified after North Korea claimed to have successfully exploded a nuclear warhead on September 9, having detonated a hydrogen bomb in January.

The US presidential election will be held on November 8.
