The September 8, 2016 editions of Lebanese newspapers discussed several hot topics on the international level, not to mention the regional and local ones. Among all, we selected you the following:

Daily Scope: Syrian Crisis on Hold, ’Israel’-Sudan Ties Improved, Hizbullah Boycotts Cabinet Session

Saudi-"Coalition" Playing on the Dead Time: Failing the Syrian "Agreement"... Awaiting Clinton!

On this issue, Mohammad Ballout wrote for as-Safir newspaper:

There is the race between London, the "Syrian Coalition" and the remnants of "Friends of Syria Group", and the meeting of Kerry-Lavrov in Geneva to down any possible Syrian-American agreements.

The US State Department was still, at night, unable to confirm its Secretary John Kerry's meeting with Russian minister Sergey Lavrov. However, the Russian ministry confirmed the meeting was held.

The bet to down the potential agreement was distinguished in the words of the general coordinator of the "High Committee of Negotiations" Riyadh Hijab, who spoke in clear accordance with the Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir, as the latter considered there is no solution if President Bashar al-Assad remains in power. This is a Saudi message to the current American administration.

Hijab, who knows very well that there is no way other than gaining more time before Obama leaves office, raised his tone saying he will reject any Russian-American agreement that doesn't intersect with the coalition three-phase vision.

Moving to Africa, Helmi Musa wrote the following:

"Israeli" Prize for "Moderate" Sudan"!

"Israel" Haaretz newspaper uncovered one of the recent ongoing political changes on the regional level, signaling a new alliances map. Sudan, which moved lately to the orbit of "moderation", was offered a kind of "Israeli" motivation as "Israelis" asked Europe and the United States to reward it for moving to the anti-Iran axis.

The newspaper added, citing Tel Aviv officials, that "Israel" asked those countries to improve their ties with Sudan, and offer good-will initiatives towards it.

According to Haaretz, US Deputy Secretary of State for Political Affairs Tom Shannon visited Tel Aviv and met last week top "Israeli" officials... Among the points negotiated is the "Israeli" role in Africa, which has been significantly active recently.

Locally, Imad Marmal's piece in today's edition discussed Hizbullah's boycott of the cabinet session:

Hizbullah Boycotts Cabinet in Solidarity with Aoun

Hizbullah's decision would probably contribute to reviving its coalition with the Free Patriotic Movement, after many deductions were recently made doubting the truth of its intentions to support Aoun in every condition.

Although communications in all directions took place the day earlier, they didn't succeed to delay the cabinet's session. PM Salam insisted to holding the session amid Hizbullah's absence, noting that it would be consultative, without making any main decision.

Informed sources noted that Hizbullah's decision not to participate in the session came as it is convinced that Aoun's concerns are right, or at least worth discussion. They shouldn't be ignored because any negligence would lead to undesirable consequences.

For its part, al-Akhbar newspaper spoke of Ankara's obedience to Washington:

Ankiara welcomes the American offer of "joint cooperation" on Syria's Raqqa city, according to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as he returned from the G20 summit in China.

Erdogan noted that his country is ready for military cooperation in the battle of Raqqa, adding that "nothing would prevent such cooperation... let the two country's military officials meet, in which they would solve all necessary issues."

As much as the American "proposal" carries a clear message to the Kurdish Units, it shows that the Turkish forces will be expanding their operations north Syria, with a "coalition" cover.

In this regard, Russian foreign ministry expressed deep concern over "Turkish forces and Ankara-supported Syrian opposition forces incursion inside Syria."

"Such movements raises concern over Syria's sovereignty and unity... and will complicate both military and political situations," the ministry added.

The statement further demanded Ankara "to stop any measures that would deteriorate the situation."
