Amidst the series of crackdown imposed by the Al Khalifa regime to silence the Bahrainis, Manama accused detained human right activist Nabeel Rajab of spreading false news about the Arab coalition.

Al-Khalifa Crackdown: Regime Accuses Rajab of Spreading False News

The so-called Bahraini public prosecution brought Rajab before a specialized doctor to examine his case.

Charges against Rajab include "posting information that could incite others and disrupt civil peace," and "illegally defaming a statutory body."

Manama district attorney Nawaf al-Awadi said that the detainee was examined by one of the doctors and a full report was issued on his case.

Awadi alleged that the defendant publicly insulted a neighboring country and a Bahraini regulatory committee.

In March 2015, Rajab posted a series of tweets and re-tweets on his personal Twitter account that the Bahraini regime alleged to be lies and accusations targeting the statutory bodies of the ministry of internal affairs and its security bodies.

According to the regime, Rajab accused the ministry of internal affairs of torturing prisoners, humiliating them, abusing them, and banning them from education. He also said that the ministry of internal affairs is arresting and breaking into homes illegally.

The Manama regime alleged that Rajab spread rumors about the war in Yemen and the military operations that Bahrain does as part of the Arab coalition.

Rajab said that the military attacks are illegal and break international laws.

Bahrain, a close ally of the United States in the Gulf region, had seen a wave of anti-regime protests since mid-February 2011.

Scores of people had been martyred and hundreds of others wounded or detained in Manama's ongoing crackdown.

On June 20, Bahraini authorities stripped Sheikh Qassim of his citizenship, less than a week after suspending al-Wefaq National Islamic Society, the country's main opposition bloc, and dissolving the Islamic Enlightenment Institution founded by Qassim, and the opposition al-Risala Islamic Association.
