The Lebanese army hits hard once again in Lebanon's Arsal, where the terrorist groups of al-Nusra (renamed Jyash al-Sham) and Daesh [Arabic acronym for "ISIS" / "ISIL"] exist, as the army forces carry out a qualitative operation against the extremist groups two days after the anniversary of the terrorist attack in which these groups abducted two groups of the Lebanese army and internal security forces.

The national dialogue that took place for three consecutive days to be concluded on Thursday did not bring about any new results, and the dialogue sessions were postponed until the 5th of September, yet officials said it seems that the three sessions are paving the way for solutions.

The internet scandal that rocked Lebanon in March surfaces once again, as sources report that some political figures try to protect people convicted in the case. These domestic topics as well as other local and regional files including the latest developments in Syria and the region were tackled by Lebanese newspapers on Friday.

AL-AKHBAR: Terrorist Groups in Arsal Inflicted with major Losses

A Security official told al-Akhbar newspaper that the security operation that was carried out by the Lebanese Army in Arsal to exterminate the terrorist groups in the area is still ongoing. According to the source, the terrorist groups have been inflicted with many losses, most important of which was the killing of the two terrorist masterminds Samer al-Baridi and Sameh al-Filiti.

Sources had reported that the two were wanted for their involvement in rigging cars used in attacks in Lebanon in 2013 and 2014, the assassination of Lebanese Army Maj. Pierre Bechaalani and 1st. Adjutant Khaled Zahraman in Arsal in Feb. 2013, and fighting against the army in Arsal in Aug. 2015.

Also, the official assured to al-Akhbar daily that the terrorists lost communication ability and freedom to move around during the past two days, whether inside Arsal town or in its outskirts. The Lebanese Army arrested four prominent Daesh militants Thursday during a surprise military operation in the outskirts of the northeastern border town of Arsal.

AL-JOMHOURIA: Army on 71st Anniversary Assures It has the Upper Hand

On the same note, al-Jomhouria newspaper said that the Lebanese army, contrary to the national dialogue which has proven to be futile so far, has achieved accomplishments and surprised the Lebanese people of its active role in protecting Lebanon in an operation that coincides with the 71st anniversary of Army day.

According to the paper, the qualitative operation carried out by the Lebanese army is considered as a security development that took place in Ataa Valley in the outskirts of Arsal where the Daesh groups were located.

On this issue, military sources told al-Jomhouria newspaper that the operation was carried out without any casualties taking place in the lines of the Lebanese army. It added that the operation confused the terrorist groups, and reassured that the Lebanese army is always ready to have the upper hand on the Lebanese arena and is capable of preserving Lebanon's security.

AN-NAHAR: National Dialogue Was Pretext to Postpone Discussions

The ministerial council meeting that took place this week was not any better than the national dialogue sessions that seemed to be futile and without any results, said An-Nahar newspaper on Friday. The newspaper pointed out that the meeting was concluded for over four hours, and witnessed edgy and tense discussions in the telecoms file.

On a related note, the newspaper said that the dialogue session that was held for three consecutive days was an exit and excuse to postpone discussing Lebanon's problems for one more month. Yet, Parliament speaker Nabih Berri, and despite the fruitless meetings said that the atmosphere of the dialogue sessions was more positive and optimistic than previous times.

It was not surprising that the three-day national dialogue session yielded no breakthrough, in light of the presidential and governmental deadlock for the past three years.
