DALY SCOPE: LA, Resistance Dismantle ‘Israeli’ Spy Device

Lebanese newspapers also revealed a new accomplishment to the Lebanese army and resistance forces, that proved non-stop alertness in preserving Lebanon's security and sovereignty as it dismantled a new developed espionage device in one of the strategic villages at the borders with occupied Palestine. Newspapers also touched on the different domestic and regional issues.

"Israeli" Espionage Device Dismantled in Sensitive Area --- AS-SAFIR

As-Safir Lebanese daily reported that as the Lebanese politicians are busy with political disputes and the garbage crisis as well as other hot domestic files, the Lebanese army along with the resistance forces detected an "Israeli" spy device in a rock connected to an electric cable, where a military expert arrived to the scene and dismantled the device.

According to the paper, this incident reveals that the "Israeli" intelligence agenda in Lebanon has not altered, and that the enemy continues to mess with Lebanon's security especially in light of the political imbalances in the country.

The device, according to the source, included a surveillance camera and four batteries. The location where the device was hidden allows the coverage of a great range from different angles in the Bani Hayan village at the borders with occupied Palestine, which is known for its sensitive geographical and security location.

Qatari Grant for Education for Children of Terrorism Supporters --- AL-AKHBAR

Qatar has apparently tasked al-Jamaa al-Islamiya with spending an Emiri grant to fund the education of the children of Sheikh Ahmed al-Asir's supporters, reported al-Akhbar newspaper on Thursday.

The paper said that instructions have been given to al-Jamaa al-Islamiya to register the children of al-Asir's supporters, who are either detained or on the run, at al-Iman high school in the southern city of Sidon.

A committee of clerics and Islamic officials in Sidon has been in contact with the wives and families of al-Asir's backers to bring their children to the high school to register them for free for the 2015-2016 academic year, the Lebanese daily added.

The armed supporters of al-Asir, an extremist in Lebanon's Sidon, clashed with the Lebanese army in Abra, which is a suburb of Sidon, in June 2013 after they opened fire on a military checkpoint killing 18 soldiers.

Al-Asir, who had been in hide since the battles, was arrested last month at Beirut's Rafik Hariri International Airport while trying to travel to Nigeria via Cairo with a fake Palestinian passport.

Diplomatic Sources Pressuring Lebanon to Resolve Impasse --- AN-NAHAR

Ministerial sources told An-Nahar newspaper that as Lebanese Prime Minister Tammam Salam returns today to Beirut from New York, where he took part in the UN General Assembly, he will meet with the House Speaker Nabih Berri to discuss the government impasse.

Sources said that in New York, Salam was told that Lebanon should bring its presidential impasse and government paralysis otherwise it would lose the support it should receive as aide for the Syrian refugees.

The source further said that diplomatic sources tried to put pressure on Salam to resolve the crises in the country.

Commenting on the refugees crisis in Lebanon, Salam had said at the assembly "If Europe, with its sizeable capacities and generous humanity, has been confused at the sight of thousands of displaced erupting suddenly in its cities, Lebanon, with its limited space and scarce capacities has been crawling for the past four years under the burden of one million and a half displaced Syrians, amounting to one third of its population."

Russia Entering Syrian War; Strategic Turning Point --- AS-SAFIR

Head of the Democratic Gathering MP Walid Jumblatt told As-Safir Newspaper on Thursday that if the "Russian planes are targeting "ISIL" that is something, and if targeting the Syrian opposition then that would be something else," warning that the second action would have consequences of which Russia should be aware.

On a related note, prominent sources from the March 8 camp told the Lebanese daily that the "Strong entering of Russia to the Syrian war will leave huge impact on the events and will constitute a strategic turning point in terms of the balance of powers in whether on ground or in politics."

The Russian Defense Ministry announced on Wednesday afternoon the start of Russian airstrikes against "ISIL" terrorists' sites in Syria, its first military engagement outside the former Soviet Union since the occupation of Afghanistan in 1979. Russian warplanes carried out strikes in three Syrian provinces along with Syrian aircraft. RT quoted the Defense Ministry as saying that several special strikes have been directed at sites for "ISIL" terrorist organization in several areas in Syria.
