TEHRAN--Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said the 8th Majlis election, slated for Friday, March 14, is a big national test to increase the dignity and authority of the Iranian nation and Islamic system.
Ayatollah Khamenei told a large group of people from different walks of life that vigilant and determined Iranian nation will have strong and extensive turnout in the elections as a religious and political duty so as to disappoint global arrogance, especially the US, once again.
The leader expressed hope that the Iranian nation would vote for the most competent, religiously committed, reliable, just, and anti-corruption candidates, who would seek national interests and rights of the deprived strata of society.
He added that people will hence form a powerful Majlis, which would be guardian of Islamic values and principles and be helpful for the country and the nation.
The leader said the global arrogance was against elections held in Iran and presence of the public for election of qualified candidates.
Ayatollah Khamenei noted the recent anti-Iran UN Security Council resolution had been issued to prevent people's participation in the elections.
"The so-called advocates of democracy are blatantly opposing democracy and elections in Iran because they are quite aware that Islamic democracy prepares the ground for power and progress of the Iranian nation," he said.
"This time, the wise and brave Iranian nation, will however take part in the elections more gloriously than the past and will thwart plots of bullying powers to undermine the Islamic system and pile up pressure on Iran," said the leader.
Ayatollah Khamenei said making the Iranian people doubtful about the great services of the government and Majlis was among other goals behind the enemies' propaganda campaigns.
The leader warned that opponents of the Iranian nation's presence on the scene have been trying to cast shadow over the free, authentic and healthy features of elections (in Iran).
The leader added, "I personally stress with full confidence that all elections held thus far in Iran have been sound and healthy and the Friday elections too will be the same."
Ayatollah Khamenei also said that the most important issue related to the 8th Majlis election was the need for high public turnout.
"The strong and decisive presence of the public on the scene over the past 30 years has been a source of more power for the country and the government, further reviving the revolutionary spirit and values," he said.
