Experts safely dismantled a 30-kg bomb discovered near a Lebanese Army base in the northern city of Tripoli.

30kg Bomb Defused in North Lebanon, LA Arrests TerroristsAccording to media information, the General Security officers found the bomb about 100 meters from an Army post in Talet Dahab on the main road between Qibbeh and Majdlaya.

Security forces and the army drew a tight dragnet around the area and blocked the road when the expert defused the explosives.

The source said Army experts safely dismantled the detonator that was attached to a 15-kg gas cylinder with a bag full of TNT lying beside it.

The street remained closed for a while and was later reopened.

The bomb was discovered two days after security forces raided Lebanon's notorious Roumieh Prison and emptied a building of extremist inmates.

The raid came after information was gathered that some inmates had been in contact with two suicide bombers who detonated themselves at a cafe in Tripoli on Saturday.

Hours earlier, the Lebanese army arrested a Lebanese man in the northern city of Tripoli on suspicion that he was plotting to carry out a suicide bombing, while two other people were captured in Bekaa's Arsal after trying to cross into its outskirts.

The army said in an official statement that its forces arrested "in Tripoli's al-Mankoubeen area the citizen Bassam Hussam Naboush on suspicion that he is a would-be suicide bomber."
